To celebrate Acne Awareness Month, we spoke to one acne-sufferer about how she has been using CBD to combat her acne and is now encouraging others to try it for themselves.
Emily McClarron, 26, had suffered from acne for eight years and finally found relief for both her skin and her stress levels by taking CBD capsules.
“I was back and forth to the doctors, I’ve tried everything.
“I had allergic reactions to most of the antibiotics I was on and then the doctors offered me a drug called Roaccutane.”
With a past of reacting badly to known side-effects of other acne medication, Emily researched Roaccutane further before turning treatment down and searching an organic alternative.
“I’m always the one looking for natural things, rather than putting a load of drugs in my body.”
Emily confessed that it took a lot of research, but she finally found an answer and started to use CBD oil after learning about its anti-inflammatory properties.
Emily has been taking one 300mg CBD Relieve capsule each day for the last year and has seen some impressive results.
“I feel amazing now! I can go out with no makeup on that’s for sure and I definitely couldn’t do that before.”
A 2014 study found that CBD prevented sebocytes from being overactive. Sebocytes are cells that naturally produce sebum. When dirt and dead skin mix with sebum they can become trapped in pores, causing an acne outbreak.
This Essex girl once cruelly dubbed ‘pizza face’ set up an Instagram account to document her progress and to showcase how CBD improved her condition.
“I had really bad anxiety and depression and it really helped calm me down, and I think that played a massive part in my acne.”
Stress can often increase the risk of break outs, and it is well documented that CBD also relieves stress levels by interacting with serotonin levels in the brain.
Acne is the most common skin condition and effects 80 percent of people aged between 11 and 30 in the UK. However, acne only effects 1 percent of men compared to around 5 percent of women over the age of 25.
